Kenya Aerotech was established in Nairobi, Kenya in February 1971 by a small group of young enterprising Kenyans who saw the need for a private indigenous aviation ground support services provider at Kenya’s airports. The company started by providing minor services to foreign airlines at Nairobi’s Embakasi International Airport, such as interior cleaning and provision of water. Within a short time, demand for a wider range of services grew steadily and soon the company was involved in loading and offloading of baggage and cargo. Staff members were trained to operate heavy machinery including conveyor belts, pushback tractors and motorised steps, then owned exclusively by airline. By the mid 70s, Kenya Aerotech provided the entire range of ground handling services to almost all foreign carriers flying into Embakasi.
