Kenya Aerotech handles the first Dreamliner at Moi International Airport, Mombasa
The first Boeing 787 Dreamliner to land at Moi International Airport Mombasa was received by an enthusiastic Kenya Aerotech handling team on Tuesday 3rd December 2013. The Thomson Airways flight from Manchester U.K. was the first of its kind to land in Mombasa.
Kenya Aerotech is only the second handling company to handle the Dreamliner in Kenya. Thomson, a long serving Kenya Aerotech customer, has operated charter flights into Mombasa for many years, using different types of aircraft and delivering thousands of tourists to the country.
The wide-body twin-engine Boeing 787 Dreamliner is the latest commercial passenger aircraft from the Boeing Commercial Airplanes production line and boasts high fuel efficiency. It is the world’s first major airliner to use composite material as the primary material in the construction of its airframe.

CUSTOMER AIRLINES
Kenya Aerotech Ltd. commands a leading market share of all international airlines handled at Mombasa with the majority arriving from Europe. The company also handles military aircraft of various nations. Staff members are constantly exposed to airlines’ DEPARTURE CONTROL SYSTEM
The company utilises the HP hosted AXS Control Departure Control System (DCS) which is used for automated check-in of all flights. Back up laptop computers are always kept ready in case of redundancy. |
OFFICE EQUIPMENT AND SYSTEMS
Other than the DCS equipment mentioned above, the station has full time Internet connectivity and is linked to Type B messaging through the Avinet messaging system provided by ARINC. STATION AUDITS
To assist maintain high service standards and confirm that our services are within the SLAs, our customers perform regular audits all year round. In addition, the company’s Quality Control system provides for internal audits to be performed at regular intervals by appointed staff at short notice. TRAINING
Training is a continuous process for Kenya Aerotech staff who are routinely kept up to date on the latest industry practices. The station normally utilizes the low season period between April and July for in-house refresher training in all areas. Dangerous Goods Awareness courses are conducted regularly to ensure all staff are compliant with Dangerous Goods Regulations and customer airline requirements. Staff members are also kept up to date on Ground Operations Manuals, Emergency Response Plans and subsequent updates of all the manuals of airlines handled at the station. |
DEDICATED WORKFORCE, 24 HOUR SERVICE
The station work force is adequate to handle between five and ten flights at any given time. The office operates on a 24 Hours basis, making it possible to handle flights at any time of day or night. The station is headed by a Station Manager supported by Duty Officers, a Customer Service team, Equipment operators and a fully fledged equipment maintenance workshop. Ground Operations Manuals, either in hard copy or electronic form (CDs and intranet). The company has signed comprehensive contracts with all customers and entered into binding Service Level Agreements (SLAs) that are available in files for easy reference. Kenya Aerotech also handles numerous Ad Hoc flights mainly from private business people and tourists both in Mombasa and Malindi. |
RAMP EQUIPMENT
Kenya Aerotech boasts modern equipment suited to handle practically all types of aircraft that land at Mombasa airport. These include Pushback tractors and tow bars, Super steps, Conveyor belts, Tractors, High loaders, Toilet and Water carts. Staff members are constantly trained on how to operate the equipment in addition to best ramp safety practices. The company’s workshop ensures efficient maintenance and records to match. SAFETY
